AVAYA STADIUM, San Jose, Calif.
October 3, 2015 (WEEK 31, MLS Game #313)
10:30 pm ET (TSN/MLS LIVE)

A huge match affecting the Western Conference playoff picture is ahead when the San Jose Earthquakes play host to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday evening at Avaya Stadium. The Quakes come into the match sitting just a point below the red line, in seventh place in the division, putting an end to their four-game winless run with a 1-0 home win vs. Real Salt Lake last weekend. Whitecaps FC can secure their place in the Audi 2015 MLS Cup Playoffs with a victory, sitting in second place, two points in back of the LA Galaxy, following a second consecutive home defeat in a 2-1 loss to New York City FC last Saturday at BC Place.

  • The Quakes put an end to their four-game winless run, Matias Perez Garcia scoring the game’s lone goal late for a 1-0 win against Real Salt Lake on Sunday afternoon at Avaya Stadium.
  • Whitecaps FC have lost back-to-back games in league play – both defeats coming at BC Place – after their dramatic late 2-1 defeat by New York City FC on Saturday evening.
  • The teams are meeting for the third time this season. Mauro Rosales scored one goal and set up another as Whitecaps FC took a 3-1 win July 26 at BC Place. Sanna Nyassi scored the game’s lone goal to lead the Earthquakes to victory, April 11 at Avaya Stadium.
  • The away team has never won in the all-time series. The Quakes have lost on each of their last six visits to Vancouver; Whitecaps FC have come away with draws on four of their six visits to San Jose.
  • The Quakes victory in the first meeting snapped an eight-game winless streak vs. Whitecaps FC, over the last three seasons. After a 3-1 San Jose victory April 7, 2012 at Buck Shaw Stadium, the ‘Caps had won five meetings, with three draws.
