What a few days it has been for Shea Salinas.
The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Tuesday that they have signed the veteran winger to a new multi-year contract. Salinas, 29, has spent the past four-plus seasons with the Western Conference club.
“Shea has had a good career here and we’re happy to extend his time,” said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear in a club statement. “He is an important part of the team and his new contract is thoroughly deserved.”
News of Salinas' deal comes just days after he scored his first goal of the year, equalizing with the final kick of a 2-2 road draw vs. Orlando City on Saturday. Salinas also notched an assist in that match.
In total, Salinas has appeared in 15 games this season. He has made five starts, and has three assists in addition to his one goal.
Salinas is currently in his second stint in San Jose. He played for the club during the 2008 and 2009 campaigns, and has amassed 10 goals and 36 assists in all his years with the Earthquakes.
Among all players in Earthquakes history, Salinas ranks third in games played (173) and assists (36). He has also appeared in 68 consecutive games dating back to July 2014, the longest active streak by an Earthquakes player.
“I’m excited to continue my career with San Jose,” said Salinas. “I have loved living here and playing for the Earthquakes, so I’m excited to remain with the club into the foreseeable future.”
