The San Jose Earthquakes announced on Friday they have signed midfielder Marc Pelosi to a new contract.
Pelosi, 22, joined the Quakes in July 2015 after playing for English Premier League powerhouse Liverpool FC's youth squads, but injury, including surgery to repair tendonitis in his knee, sidelined him for the entire 2016 season.
"We've always believed Marc was a high-potential player," said Earthquakes interim general manager Chris Leitch in a team statement. "At just 22 years old, we think Marc's best days on the field are ahead of him."
A Bay Area native, Pelosi was a highly-touted US youth international, and he captained the US at the 2011 U-17 World Cup. He has also played for the US U-23 national team.
"We're happy to bring Marc back," said Earthquakes head coach Dominic Kinnear. "He's a player with a lot of ability and we have faith that he'll show that ability in an Earthquakes uniform."
