The San Jose Earthquakes have signed 16-year-old center back Casey Walls to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Tuesday.

The center back has been involved with the youth national team setup at the U-14, U-15 and U-16 levels in the past. He joined the Quakes academy in 2017 and played up with the U-19s in 2019.

“Casey is a talented central defender that stood out at a young age in our academy for his technical skills and maturity,” Quakes general manager Jesse Fioranelli said in a statement. “As he has progressed in the U.S. Youth National Team system, we also wanted to provide a support system to allow him to develop in our first team environment. Matias [Almeyda] has made an effort to include academy players in training sessions on a weekly basis throughout the year and Casey has proven that he is capable of taking on the challenge.”

Walls is the sixth academy product to sign a Homegrown deal with the club since December 2016.
