TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The San Jose Earthquakes have signed defender Luciano Abecasis, the club announced Wednesday. He is under contract for 2021 with a club option for 2022.
Abecasis, a 30-year-old right back, was with Libertad in Paraguay in 2020 where he made 13 appearances. His career began with River Plate a decade ago and he has also featured for Godoy Cruz, Italian side Pescara and others in his career.
Abecasis previously played for Quakes head coach Matias Almeyda when the pair were at River Plate. He is the seventh player on the current roster who joined with previous experience under Almeyda, following the likes of Eric Remedi, Daniel Vega, Andy Rios, Osvaldo Alanis, Chofis Lopez and Carlos Fierro.
The Argentine joins after the club traded versatile fullback Nick Lima to Austin FC. Tommy Thompson spent most of the last two seasons starting at right back under Almeyda.
