UPDATE (Feb. 14, 2:45 pm ET): The San Jose Earthquakes are close to finalizing a trade with Atlanta United for Eric Remedi, ending speculation of the defensive midfielder's return to his native Argentina.
Felipe Cardenas of The Athletic tweeted the Quakes and Atlanta remain in discussion over Remedi, with the sides close to working out a deal. Atlanta announced the signing of midfielder Santiago Sosa from River Plate on Thursday. He'll presumably eat up the minutes Remedi would have received.
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
While it appears likely Eric Remedi’s days at Atlanta United are numbered, what isn’t as certain is where the Argentine defensive midfielder will play next.
Cesar Luis Merlo reported late last month both San Lorenzo and Independiente were looking to land the 25-year-old on loan, and Independiente have already submitted a formal offer.
But now comes word the San Jose Earthquakes have also reportedly reached out regarding Remedi, who joined the Five Stripes from Banfield midway through the 2018 season.
Judson has carved out a regular role as the No. 6 under Matias Almeyda, but there’s not much depth at that position so the move makes sense for the Quakes.
Remedi was a day one starter for Atlanta, but his minutes dwindled in 2020, starting 12 of the 18 matches he appeared in.
