San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Marc Pelosi will be out of action three to four months after successfully undergoing a procedure Friday to resolve chronic tendinitis in his left knee, the club announced.
Pelosi will also miss the US U-23 national team’s Olympic qualifying playoff series against Colombia in late March.
Pelosi signed with San Jose in July 2015 and appeared in 12 games, making seven starts, last season. He was called into the USMNT’s January camp for the second time this year, although he was unable to attend due to injury.
A product and member of the US youth national team system, Pelosi previously captained the US to the Round of 16 in the 2011 U-17 FIFA World Cup in Mexico. He later suited up for the U-20s and is currently a regular for the U-23s. Pelosi signed with Liverpool of the English Premier League soon after the U-17 FIFA World Cup and played for their U-18s and U-20s over parts of four seasons before signing with San Jose.
