San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Gilbert Fuentes underwent surgery this past Thursday to repair a broken clavicle, the club announced. The injury was sustained during an at-home accident, and no specific timeline for his recovery was announced.

Fuentes, 18, signed a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose ahead of the 2018 campaign, and was then the youngest signing in club history. He’s since made two appearances off the bench, totaling three minutes of MLS action.

Most of Fuentes’ playing time has come on loan at USL Championship club Reno 1868 FC, where he’s made 16 appearances and scored in their 2020 season opener against the Tacoma Defiance. On the international scene, Fuentes has featured extensively for the US U-17 national team.

Fuentes is one of eight Homegrowns on San Jose’s roster, with five aged 18 or younger.
