He couldn’t prevent Toronto FC from putting up four goals, but San Jose Earthquakes goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell did win MLS Save of the Week for Week 27 for a stop in his club’s 4-0 loss at BMO Field last Saturday.
Tarbell collected 44 percent of the Save of the Week vote for his double save on TFC’s Jonathan Osorio and Justin Morrow in the 90th minute of Saturday’s match. The second-year ‘keeper dove to his right and pawed away Osorio’s 15-yard effort with one hand, then blocked Morrow’s follow-up shot at the near post.
Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella finished second with 36 percent of the final tally. NYCFC’s Sean Johnson (13 percent), Vancouver’s David Ousted (five percent) and Colorado’s Tim Howard (two percent) rounded out the field.
Tarbell and the Quakes will return home on Saturday to take on the Houston Dynamo at Avaya Stadium. San Jose are currently in seventh in the West, one point behind FC Dallas for the sixth and final playoff spot and two points back of fifth-place Houston. Both Texas clubs have played one fewer game than San Jose.
