They were convinced: Just a few days ago Agustín Pelletieri was supposed to be joining the rest of the Argentine contingent at the Portland Timbers.
But the early reports may have had it all wrong.
Reporters in Argentina (see tweets below) now claim that the former Racing midfielder will be departing to join Chivas USA, a team that could use the central midfield help with only two natural center mids in Marky Delgado and Oswaldo Minda.
When contacted by MLSsoccer.com for comment on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Chivas USA said that "because he's not a member of our team, we cannot speak about it."
In his formal presentation on Tuesday, new head coach Wilmer Cabrera said that: "We’re looking for talent that can adapt and experienced players that know the league.” Would Pelletieri fit the former?
