Major League Soccer announced on Friday Seattle Sounders defender Roman Torres has been suspended 10 games and fined 20 percent of his annual salary for violating the MLS Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) Policy. Torres tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance.
The 10-game suspension is assessed as a result of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, effective immediately. In addition, he cannot participate in team training sessions, use the team facilities unless he is rehabilitating an injury under the direction of team staff, or in any competitions, friendly matches, scrimmages or other team events, including team appearances.
14 days before the first game Torres is eligible to play for the Sounders, he may train with Seattle's USL affiliate, Tacoma Defiance, in preparation of his return, but he may not play for the team in any games.
Torres will be eligible to play again for the Sounders beginning with the Sept. 29 game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
