Roman Torres is heading back to Seattle.
Inter Miami CF have traded the center back to the Sounders in exchange for a conditional first-round pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft, the clubs announced Monday. According to Sam Stejskal and Paul Tenorio of The Athletic, who were were the first to report the deal, the pick is top-19 protected.
The veteran Panamanian, who spent five productive years as a regular starter for the Sounders, started four of the five matches he appeared in for Miami, but his last start came at the MLS is Back Tournament. Leandro Gonzalez Pirez joined the expansion side after the tournament and has partnered with Andres Reyes as Diego Alonso's first-choice center back tandem. Nicolas Figal has also featured at center back.
Torres, 34, won a pair of MLS Cup titles with the Sounders and made 83 appearances across all competitions. Last year, he served a 10-game suspension for using a performance-enhancing drug but returned to start the MLS Cup final win over Toronto FC. While also being courted for a return to the Colombian league, he signed with Miami as a free agent on Dec. 29, 2019.
