In match featuring Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, David Villa and Andrea Pirlo, rookie midfielder Jack Harrison stole the first-half show and continued his meteoric rise with a spectacular goal in a 3-1 New York City FC victory against the Montreal Impact on Sunday afternoon.
The 19-year-old, who was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, received a cross-field ball from Tommy McNamara before leaving the Montreal defense grasping at air. Harrison dribbled at Ambroise Oyongo, twisting and turning the Montreal defender just inside the 18-yard box before clinically finishing inside the far post with a precise curling finish.
It was Harrison’s third goal in his seventh straight start and eighth appearance overall for an NYCFC team that boasts the league’s best road form. Harrison, who missed all of preseason and the first two months of the season with a pelvis injury, is third in the current rookie power rankings, but could be moving on up after a goal like that.
Earlier this month, the England-born attacker said he would be "open" to playing for the United States national team. Harrison moved to the US when he was 14 years old and attended Wake Forest before being drafted in January by the Chicago Fire and traded to NYCFC in a draft-day deal.
