TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
A club re-making their backline after conceding 61 goals in 2018, the Chicago Fire may need to look for further reinforcements.
First reported by The Athletic's Paul Tenorio (and confirmed by American Soccer Now's Brian Sciaretta), it's likely that the future of fullbacks Matt Polster and Andrew Gutman lie outside of Chicago. Both players have offers from Scotland, with the former expected to sign with Rangers and the latter weighing offers from both Rangers and Celtic.
Polster, 25, has made 82 appearances for the Fire since being drafted in 2015, though he missed most of the 2018 season with a knee injury. He had been the team's regular at right back.
Gutman, 22, just wrapped up a stellar collegiate career at Indiana and is eligible to sign a Homegrown contract from the Fire. The attacking left back just won the Hermann Trophy as the best player in the NCAA. If he doesn't sign in Scotland, Tenorio reports that the Fire are shopping his Homegrown rights on the trade market. Either way, it looks like he won't be pulling on a Fire jersey in 2019.
The Fire signed center back Marcelo from Sporting CP this offseason, though have just four defenders under contract at the moment.
