Following the Daily Mail's report Wednesday that English star Wayne Rooney has told current club Everton he's ready to sign with D.C. United, multiple new reports have shed more light on a possible Rooney-to-D.C. move.

On Thursday morning, Sky Sports and the BBC reported that Rooney has an "agreement in principle" to join D.C. through the end of the 2020 season, claiming Rooney's representatives had been in the US to negotiate the deals. However, ESPN FC reported later on Wednesday morning that "a move away from [Everton] is yet to be confirmed," while the Washington Post's Steven Goff, reports a source close to the D.C. organization as saying the outlook for the deal being completed is "50-50."

Following reports that English star Wayne Rooney had entered "serious talks" with D.C. United on a summer transfer, The Daily Mail reported late Wednesday that Rooney has told Everton he's ready to sign a substantial deal with the MLS original club.

Rooney has a year remaining on his deal with Premier League side Everton, where the 32-year-old has spent much of the year playing midfield rather than the forward position from which he's produced a legendary career.

England's all-time leading scorer, Rooney would join a D.C. side that currently sit last in the Eastern Conference, but are set to move into a long-awaited new stadium, Audi Field, on July 14. They've been linked with several other marquee names, most notably Italian striker Mario Balotelli.
