MONDAY, 3:30 PM ET: Are Wayne Rooney's days in a D.C. United jersey numbered?
Well, according to Steven Goff of The Washington Post, the English legend might return to his native country after the conclusion of the 2019 season. He is currently linked with Derby County, where earlier reports suggested he may become a player-coach at the Championship side, as well as the Premier League's Burnley.
The Athletic's Pablo Maurer added he expects a decision to come within the next 48 hours.
Rooney, 33, has been a huge hit in MLS since joining the club last summer. He has 23 goals and 14 assists in 43 appearances for D.C. United, leading the club on an improbable surge from the bottom of the Eastern Conference to the playoffs last year.
The Premier League's second-top all-time leading scorer spent the entirety of his career in the league before joining D.C. last summer.
