TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Inbeom Hwang could be on the move, according to several weekend reports linking him with a transfer to Russia.
According to a Saturday report from Transfermarkt, Hwang was being pursued by three clubs from the Russian Premier League: Rostov, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Rubin Kazan. However, it's Rubin Kazan that has emerged as the front runner for Hwang's services, per a Sunday update, with a deal reportedly all but in place pending a medical evaluation.
The rumors picked up steam in recent days as Hwang's 24th birthday approaches in September, which would put him above the threshold to qualify as a Young Designated Player.
The South Korea international joined the Whitecaps ahead of the 2019 campaign and started 31 games last season, picking up three goals and five assists in 2,807 minutes. He's started all five of his appearances for Vancouver this season, dishing out one assist in 450 minutes.
Hwang started his professional career in South Korea for Daejeon Citizen, scoring 15 goals in 88 games before making the move to MLS. He also has 23 career senior caps for South Korea, scoring three international goals.
