Although they won’t be in the World Cup, the US national team may still have a busy summer.
On Thursday morning, the French Football Federation released their upcoming schedule, which included a game against the USMNT on June 9 in Lyon.
A US Soccer spokesperson said the “contract has not been signed” but plans for the game are being finalized and an “official announcement is coming soon."
The friendly would serve as an important test for France, which plays its first World Cup game vs. Australia the following week, and also for what figures to be a young American squad.
Previous reports have indicated US Soccer may also be looking into games against other prominent teams that did not make the World Cup, such as Italy, the Netherlands, Ghana and Chile.
