TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Toronto FC homegrown winger Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty only has 18 MLS minutes to his name, but a Goal.com report from Ryan Tomlich outlines that some of Europe’s biggest clubs are tracking the 16-year-old native of Brampton, Ontario.
Marshall-Rutty, who signed with Toronto in January 2020, is reportedly being monitored by the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Manchester City, Porto and Bayern Munich. That perhaps shouldn’t come as a surprise, since Toronto FC general manager Ali Curtis previously called the teenager one of the “top young players in all of North America.”
This past January, Marshall-Rutty became the youngster-ever player to earn an invite to Canada’s senior national team. Marshall-Rutty awaits his first appearance under manager John Herdman, but his rise seems to be gaining steam.
Bayern Munich’s inclusion in Goal.com’s report could raise an eyebrow or two, especially since Canada national team star Alphonso Davies is their starting left back. After developing as a homegrown for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, Davies has enjoyed a meteoric rise with the Bundesliga powerhouse club.
It’s also an interesting time in Marshall-Rutty’s club career, as Toronto are now led by head coach Chris Armas. Perhaps he’ll impress the former New York Red Bulls boss and further prove himself in MLS, adding fuel to the overseas interest. Marshall-Rutty couldn't secure a move of this ilk until he turns 18, due to international soccer regulations.
