Toronto FC's pursuit of Will Johnson is reportedly heating up.
The Toronto Sun has reported that TFC are the frontrunners to sign Johnson, the 28-year-old midfielder who just won an MLS Cup with the Portland Timbers but announced his likely departure from the Western Conference club shortly thereafter.
Johnson has been linked in recent weeks with a move to either Toronto or the Chicago Fire, where he previously played, but now could be on the brink of signing a deal with the Canadian club. Toronto have been "ramping up" their negotiations with the Canadian international, per the Sun report, and are keen on adding him to their roster.
A veteran center mid known for his hard-nosed style of play, Johnson played in 12 regular-season games for the Timbers in 2015 (all starts).
