English Premier League club Stoke City have made Borussia Dortmund a €20 million transfer offer for 17-year-old US national team midfielder Christian Pulisic, according to German outlet Bild.
Bild also reported that Bundesliga club RB Leipzig and Russian side CSKA Moscow could provide Stoke with competition for Pulisic, who scored two goals in 12 appearances for Dortmund after being promoted to the first-team from the club’s academy in January.
Pulisic got his pro career off to a promising start last season, but he’s facing some increased competition for playing time at Dortmund this year. The reigning Bundesliga runners-up added Mario Gotze, Andre Schurrle, Ousmane Dembele and Emre Mor this summer to an attacking midfielder/winger group that already included Marco Reus and Shinji Kagawa, meaning Pulisic has talented, more experienced players to contend with as he searches for minutes.
The Pennsylvania-native would probably face less of a battle for time at Stoke, who currently have fellow US international Geoff Cameron on the roster and have a history of signing Americans. The club, who do have established attacking midfielders in Xherdan Shaqiri, Bojan and Ibrahim Afelllay, finished ninth in the EPL last year.
Pulisic has one goal in six career caps with the USMNT, three of which came at the Copa America Centenario earlier this summer. His father, Mark, told Bild last week that “Christian has no interest in leaving” Dortmund.
