TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Nico Lodeiro is a wanted man.
According to Sounder at Heart's Niko Moreno, Lodeiro is a target of an unnamed Saudi Arabian club. Moreno reports that the Seattle Sounders have a contract option for Lodeiro for 2021 but that's the final year he's under club control, leading to the Saudi club's interest though there is yet to be any official bid.
Lodeiro, 31, is in his fifth season with Seattle. The Uruguayan international has helped lead the club to an incredible period of success since joining in 2016, including two MLS Cup trophies in three trips to the final. He has 31 goals and 56 assists over 116 matches, including five goals and eight assists in 15 games this season as the Sounders sit atop the Western Conference.
Saudi clubs have been involved in a number of high-profile deals across MLS over the last few months. Pity Martinez moved to Al-Nassr FC from Atlanta United for a reported $18 million, Alexandru Mitrita went to Al-Ahli from NCYFC then Saphir Taider left the Montreal Impact for Al-Ain.
This isn't the first time Lodeiro has been involved in reports linking him to a future away from Seattle, of course. He has been connected with a return to Boca Juniors, where he played before signing for the Sounders in 2016.
