San Jose Earthquakes head coach Matias Almeyda is once again being linked with a move away from the team, this time to the vacant head coaching role at Cruz Azul in Mexico.
An ESPN report says Almeyda is on the shortlist to replace Robert Siboldi, who left the role after more than a year with the club. Almeyda is joined on the shortlist by former Monterrey head coach Antonio Mohamed and former Mexico coach Hugo Sanchez. The report says that Mohamed is the favorite currently, but Almeyda is Cruz Azul's second choice.
Almeyda has been with the Earthquakes since the start of 2019, and during that time has been linked with several Liga MX teams. He was linked to the Monterrey job last month, though the vacancy was eventually filled by Javier Aguirre. Almeyda already has experience in Liga MX as the Guadalajara coach from 2015 to 2018, winning the CONCACAF Champions League in his final year with the club.
