A rumored addition to the New York City FC backline seems headed toward a welcome conclusion for the club:
Costa Rica club LD Alajuelense posted a news release Saturday indicating they'd reached an agreement to send left back Ronald Matarrita to the Big Apple, wishing him success as he moves on. Reports, which tab the subsequent player contract for four seasons, first surfaced locally in the early afternoon.
The 21-year-old has made appearances for Costa Rica at the U-17, -20, -22 and -23 levels, along with a senior team debut in May (friendly vs. Brazil) followed by starting nods for Los Ticos in World Cup Qualifiers against Haiti and Panama in November. He debuted for Alajuelense on Sept. 5, 2013 and has made 67 appearances for the club side, with 4 goals and 17 yellow cards (no reds!), per Soccerway.com.
