TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Josef Martinez inked a contract extension on Wednesday, Pity Martinez is still expected to join Atlanta United and Miguel Almiron is in transfer limbo, but could another Atlanta attacking piece be on the move?
That's the suggestion from Mexican outlet MedioTiempo, which relays that sources have indicated Liga MX giants Club America and their colorful manager Miguel Herrera have expressed interest in Hector Villalba.
Atlanta would be seeking a fee of $6 million for Villalba's services, MedioTiempo reports. Villalba is not one of Atlanta's three Designated Players on the roster as Josef, Almiron and Ezequiel Barco currently occupying those slots. Pity Martinez would come in as a Designated Player, as he has previously said that he will be joining the Five Stripes, so one player will need to find a new club before the start of the season.
Villalba posted on Instagram and Twitter on Thursday after reports of foreign interest were made public.
Pity Martinez has played primarily on the left wing, and Villalba mostly on the right. But with Ezequiel Barco still in the fold, that could leave one flank position unavailable.
Villalba has also spent some time at center forward, but would obviously continue to be below record-setter Josef Martinez on the depth chart there. The Paraguayan international previously spent time in Liga MX while on loan from Atlanta prior to the club's first MLS season, making one appearance for Club Tijuana.
