TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Matt Polster is set to leave Rangers FC via a mid-six figure transfer fee and become a New England Revolution player, according to a report from Craig Hope of the Daily Mail.
The move would come a year-and-a-half after the midfielder/defender departed MLS. A first-round pick of Chicago Fire FC at the 2015 SuperDraft, Polster previously made 82 appearances (73 starts) and recorded three goals and 10 assists in MLS.
Polster signed with Rangers in January 2019 after previously trialing at the Scottish club, though struggled to carve out a consistent role. He’s played 10 matches for Rangers across all competitions, with his last minutes coming off the bench during a March 12 Europa League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Polster could fill a much-needed role for the Revolution, with midfielder Luis Caicedo out for the year following knee surgery. He’d also provide another option at right back, with New England mostly deputizing Brandon Bye in the role.
Since Polster only has a single US men’s national team cap and left Chicago on a free transfer, he was not on the Allocation Ranking List, meaning the Revs do not have to go through the Allocation Process in order to bring him back to MLS. Polster was a staple for Chicago from 2015-17, then contended with a knee operation of his own during the 2018 campaign.
