Real Salt Lake looks like they’re set to lose one of their most recent acquisitions, according to a report from former MLS coach and occasional MLSsoccer.com studio analyst Thomas Rongen.
Rongen tweeted Thursday that midfielder Luis Silva – acquired by RSL in exchange for Alvaro Saborio in a July trade with D.C. United – is set to join Liga MX club Tigres.
RSL and Tigres will face offin the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals, which begin this February. Silva, out of contract with Salt Lake, made one appearance for them during the CCL group stage and is cup-tied as a result. He will not be eligible to compete for Tigres in the 2015-16 competition.
Silva, 27, scored one goal in 21 appearances with RSL and D.C. last year. The California native, drafted by Toronto FC with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, had 20 goals and 13 assists in 108 appearances through four seasons. His best campaign came in 2014, when he notched 11 goals and four assists to help D.C. finish the regular season in first-place in the Eastern Conference.
