TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Reports
Atlanta United could soon see a midfield change, with reports emerging of Franco Ibarra signing from Argentinos Juniors and Eric Remedi possibly heading back to Argentina on loan.
Ibarra, 19, was quoted as saying he’s excited to compete for the Five Stripes after a previous report linked him to Atlanta. There’s nothing official from the club, with the prospect making 11 appearances for his Argentine Primera Division side thus far.
As for Remedi, Cesar Luis Merlo is reporting that both San Lorenzo and Independiente are looking to sign the defensive midfielder. Remedi was at Banfield before coming to Atlanta in 2018, and since has one goal and three assists in 59 appearances (49 starts).
This all occurs as Atlanta approach their first season under head coach Gabriel Heinze, who arrived in December after leading Velez Sarsfield, another Argentine club. They’re looking to return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs after missing out last season, their first absence since entering the league in 2017.
Atlanta’s other defensive midfielder is Mo Adams, who joined midway through the 2019 campaign via a trade with Chicago Fire FC. Adams has since notched one goal and one assist in 17 appearances (10 starts) for the Five Stripes.
