After more than two seasons away, striker Erick "Cubo" Torres could be heading back from Liga MX to Major League Soccer to join an Atlanta United team that needs a striker to replace at least some of Josef Martinez's production, according to a report from ESPN MX.

According to the report, Atlanta sporting director Carlos Bocanegra has made an offer to Club Tijuana for Torres, who scored 14 goals with the Houston Dynamo in 2017. Bocanegra and Torres were Chivas USA teammates for two seasons, including in 2014 when Torres scored a career-high 15 goals.

Torres departed for Liga MX after 2017, first to Pumas UNAM before moving on to Xolos, but failed to find his goalscoring form or regular playing time at either stop. He has only four Liga MX goals since his most recent MLS departure in 29 appearances.

Atlanta have been without Martinez, who had 77 goals over his first three MLS seasons, since he suffered an ACL tear at the beginning of the regular season that is expected to require 6-9 months recovery time. Atlanta failed to score in three group stage defeats at the MLS is Back Tournament, a fact that at least partly contributed to the departure of manager Frank de Boer announced last Friday.
