TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Argentine defender Erik Godoy is set to remain with the Vancouver Whitecaps, according to a Thursday report from SoyDeportes.com.
The 26-year-old spent last season on loan with Vancouver from Club Athletico Colon and established himself as a regular fixture in the club's back line, starting 28 of his 29 league appearances and recording one goal and one assist from his center back spot. The solid debut MLS campaign looks to have been enough to convince the Whitecaps brass to keep him in town. The purchase option to retain Godoy will reportedly run at $1.5 million.
Godoy's return would allow Vancouver to retain some continuity for a back line that saw fellow center back Doneil Henry, who started 24 games and played 2,123 minutes for the Whitecaps last season, transferred to South Korean K-League side Suwon Samsung Bluewings.
Prior to coming to MLS, Godoy was a veteran of Argentina's professional leagues, beginning with Tigre in 2012 and racking up 100 appearances before moving to Belgrano in 2017. He then made 11 appearances for top-flight side Colon in 2018 before he was loaned out to Vancouver.
