TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
The Colorado Rapids are poised to acquire defender Michael Edwards in a trade with D.C. United for the player's MLS rights, according to Steven Goff of The Washington Post.
Goff reported on Friday that the Rapids and D.C. were nearing a deal that would send Edwards to Colorado in exchange for an undetermined sum of Allocation Money. The 20-year-old is a D.C. United academy product, but is currently playing with Wolfsburg II in Germany, where he's been since 2019, and started six matches this season.
Goff originally reported stateside interest in Edwards back in November, updating that on Friday with the news that the Rapids emerged as the MLS suitor for his services.
Update on this Nov. item: Michael Edwards is returning stateside to play for Colorado, I'm told. Rapids are making a trade with D.C. United for his #MLS rights, presumably involving allocation money.

Acquiring his rights would allow the Rapids to sign Edwards as a Homegrown player and not take up a senior roster spot. Should the move come to fruition, it would give head coach Robin Fraser another option at the center back spot, where Lalas Abubakar and Danny Wilson are currently the first-choice pairing.
