Canada national team attacker Lucas Cavallini is heading to the True North to continue his pro career, according to a recent report from ESPN Deportes' John Sutcliffe.

Per Sutcliffe, the 26-year-old striker is set to join the Vancouver Whitecaps after spending his entire pro career in Latin America, most recently playing his trade for Liga MX's Puebla, where he has 29 league goals in two-and-a-half years.

Additionally, Mexican journalist Antonio Zamora indicates Cavallini did not join Puebla in camp following the recently concluded 2019 Apertura and is in Uruguay awaiting word on his future.

That might include ironing out the details of the move, after a previously rumored $5 million bid by Vancouver for his services may have fallen through last summer. Sporting Kansas City was also linked to the striker last month.

Cavallini's attacking chops would be desperately welcome in Vancouver, whose 37 MLS goals last season were second-fewest in the league.

Born in Toronto to an Argentine father and Canadian mother, Cavallini began his pro career in Uruguay across four different clubs, including the two traditional powers of Nacional and Penarol.

Internationally, his breakthrough has come relatively recently, with five goals in Concacaf Nations League qualifying during 2018 and 2019 and five more in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
