With highlights like yesterday’s ridiculous assist in Bayern Munich’s 8-2 rout over Barcelona in the Champions League, Alphonso Davies is becoming known as one of the best left backs in the world.
But before the Bundesliga powerhouse landed the Canadian international in a record transfer from the Vancouver Whitecaps, reportedly Barca had a chance to sign Davies.
Hristo Stoichkov, the former Bulgarian star who currently works as a TUDN commentator, reached out to Barca president Josep Maria Bartomeu about Davies.
TUDN reporter Luis Omar Tapia said Stoichkov, who played for Barcelona in a storied career that included stops at the Chicago Fire and D.C. United, was briskly rebuffed.
Barcelona’s transfer policy has been heavily criticized following the defeat and this surely won’t benefit the Catalan giants.
But it’s not like they were the only ones to doubt Davies’ potential, as the Whitecaps were quick to point out.
