TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Atlanta United defender Franco Escobar recently received his U.S. green card, but one Argentine club may be interested in bringing him back to his home country.
Racing Club manager Sebastian Beccacece is looking for reinforcements on the right side of his backline and has identified Escobar as one of three names on his shortlist to fill the position, a report from TyC sports revealed on Tuesday evening.
Leo Jara, who played with D.C. United last season before returning to Boca Juniors, was named as another option.
Signed from another Argentine club, Newell's Old Boys, Escobar has made 47 regular season appearances (42 starts) in two seasons while also emerging as a postseason killer of sorts. He has three goals in eight career MLS Cup Playoff matches, including a goal in Atlanta's 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers in 2018 MLS Cup.
He also received his permanent U.S. residency earlier this month. That would seem to make it even more likely he would be staying in Atlanta, since he will no longer count toward the club's international roster spots.
