TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
For most MLS teams, the search for new players ahead of the 2021 season is fully underway and according to a recent report, a trio of the league's teams may have their sights set on Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.
D.C. United and the LA Galaxy have both been linked to the German World Cup winner in recent months and on Friday, ESPN reported that Inter Miami are also interested in a potential deal. Perhaps most notably, ESPN state that Ozil himself is open to a move to MLS.
Ozil is in a well-known tense position with Arsenal, having not played for the team since March. He also was not registered for the team's Premier League or Europa League squads, but per the report, Ozil still hopes he can play for Arsenal in the second half of the 2020-21 season before leaving on a free in the summer.
Both LA Galaxy and Inter Miami had the maximum three Designated Players under contract in 2020, although the Galaxy remain in negotiations about a permanent deal to bring back one of those, Cristian Pavon. D.C. United currently have a Designated Player spot open.
