Recap: Houston Dynamo FC 4, San Jose Earthquakes 3

Sebastian Ferreira scored his first two goals for Houston Dynamo FC on their way to a goal-filled 4-3 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at PNC Stadium Saturday evening.

Ferreira got the hosts off to a roaring start, opening his Dynamo account in the eighth minute when the Paraguayan was left unmarked atop the box on a corner kick. However, the Dynamo wouldn't be able to maintain the early lead, as Jeremy Ebobisse struck for a brace between the 25th and 28th minute to put the Quakes up 2-1.

Houston equalized in the 43rd minute when JT Marcinkowski managed to clear the ball from Tyler Pasher's run – but it fell to Darwin Quintero, who netted his fourth goal of the season.

The hosts added two more goals to their tally following Quintero's equalizer, first in the 57th minute when Teenage Hadebe scored his first MLS goal by whipping the ball in from just under the penalty spot on a corner kick. Ferreira then gave Houston a two-goal cushion in the 68th minute with his second of the night.

Tommy Thompson's volley in the 77th minute cut Houston's lead to one, but San Jose ran out of time to find an equalizer.

Three Things

• THE BIG PICTURE: Ferreira and Ebobisse both recorded two-goal nights but the Dynamo took all three points. Houston remained unbeaten at home this season and notched back-to-back wins for the first time since Sept. 2020. The Earthquakes found the goals but couldn’t close in on their first win of the season due to more struggles on the defensive side of the ball. With the loss, San Jose remain at the bottom of the Western Conference in the early going.
• MOMENT OF THE MATCH: This type of performance shows why the Dynamo signed Ferreira to a Designated Player contract, with the Paraguayan sealing this win with his second goal of the match.

• MAN OF THE MATCH: The monkey is officially off of Ferreira’s back. The DP striker has his first Dynamo goal and notched a game-winner to boot.
