In addition to grabbing three points and winning the 2016 edition of the Rocky Mountain Cup on Friday night, Real Salt Lake celebrated a milestone night for two key players.
Goalkeeper Nick Rimando, who has rewritten the MLS record book already this season, broke the all-time record for appearances in MLS in Friday's 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. His 417th appearance means he passes former goalkeeper Kevin Hartman for most games played in MLS regular season history.
The latest milestone comes in addition to most MLS wins in history, most shutouts in league history, most minutes played and most starts, all marks the 17-year veteran has set this season. Aside from that, Rimando was also recently voted best goalkeeper in MLS history by fans.
In addition to the history made by Rimando, his RSL and USMNT teammate Kyle Beckerman also broke a record in Friday's game, going the full 90 to surpass former Tampa Bay Mutiny and New England Revolution midfielder Steve Ralston for most minutes played in MLS history by an outfield player, at 33,145. Beckerman, also a 17-year veteran of the league, now sits behind only Hartman and Rimando for the all-time regular season minutes record among all MLS players.
