After last year saw the Waiver Draft go by with zero selections, the 2017 MLS Waiver Draft ended with two players selected.
Former San Jose fullback Kip Colvey is on his way to Colorado to reunite with his former New Zealand national team head coach Anthony Hudson while former LA Galaxy 'keeper Clement Diop is on his way to joining the Montreal Impact.
A New Zealand international, Colvey recently played against Peru under Hudson in a World Cup qualifying playoff that the Kiwis would eventually lose. The 23-year-old appeared in four games for the Quakes in 2016 but failed to make a league appearance in 2017.
Diop joins the Impact after making 15 starts with the Galaxy in 2017, when he collected two clean sheets and conceded 31 goals.
There were 57 other players available in the draft. Those players not selected are now free to sign with the team of their choice.
The Waiver Draft consisted of players who had been waived by their clubs but didn't meet the minimum years of service requirement for the Re-Entry Draft or Free Agency. Under-contract players who were selected in the Waiver Draft would've been automatically added to the drafting club’s roster.
Clubs that claimed out-of-contract players would've had to issue a genuine offer to the selected player.
