Two goals, one win, and one MLS Player of the Week award for Andre Shinyashiki.
The Colorado Rapids forward scored a brace to lead his team to a 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, and has been voted MLS Player of the Week for Week 27 of the 2019 MLS regular season.
In Robin Fraser's home debut as head coach of the Rapids, the home side faced a Sounders side missing a host of key players to international duty, although Colorado were also missing contributors for the match. Enter Shinyashiki.
The Brazilian opened the scoring for the Rapids just before halftime with a beautiful one-timer after a nice buildup. He doubled his tally with a tap-in in the second half to seal the result.
The 22-year-old now has seven goals and two assists in 26 appearances this season in league play for the Rapids. Shinyashiki is the first MLS rookie to win MLS Player of the Week since Jack Harrison accomplished the feat with New York City FC in Week 17 of the 2016 season.
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
