Viewers who stuck around to watch the Portland Timbers' traditional log slab celebration after their 4-0 rout of the LA Galaxy might have caught a scary sight:
Yes, that's Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark donning a Michael Myers mask from the classic slasher franchise Halloween. Turns out, it's not the first time he's broken it out.
Per The Oregonian, Clark obtained the mask prior to Portland's clash with the Houston Dynamo last month, which they also won 4-0. Just like Saturday night's game against the Galaxy, Clark donned the mask as he went to celebrate with the Timbers Army.
“Providence Park is going to be a house of horrors this summer," Clark was quoted as saying at the time. "It’s going to be a tough place to come. That’s kind of what I’m saying. This is a bunch of monsters out here.”
It was certainly a house of horrors for the Galaxy on Saturday, in no small part thanks to Clark's efforts. The veteran 'keeper made six saves on the evening to preserve the shutout, none more eye-popping than this one on Uriel Antuna:
It's a moment that will probably like in Antuna's — and the Galaxy's — nightmares this week. For Clark and the Timbers, they'll need to keep the spooky-good theatrics going if they want to stay on the right side of the playoff line.
