TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signings
The Portland Timbers have signed forward Marvin Loria and midfielder Renzo Zambrano from USL affiliate T2, the club announced Monday.
Loria, 21, scored 6 goals and added 7 assists in 31 appearances in 2018 after being signed on loan from Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa. He also spent time with the reserve team of renowned Portuguese club Benfica and has featured for the Costa Rican youth national teams.
Zambrano, 24, had 3 goals and 4 assists in 32 appearances for T2 in USL play. He previously was on the books at Spanish side Real Valladolid and has been capped three times by the Venezuelan national team. Both players will occupy an international spot on the Timbers' roster.
"The signing of Renzo and Marvin reflects the progress and potential of both players and justly rewards them," said Gavin Wilkinson, general manager and president of soccer for the Timbers. "These signings also are a reflection of the effectiveness and growth of our T2 program, and we wish both players continued success with our club."
Said Timbers head coach Giovanni Savarese: “We are pleased to welcome Marvin and Renzo to the first team. They have shown their talents with T2 and in first-team training over the course of the season, and we are excited to help further their development through this new opportunity.”
