Portland Timbers to open "Double Post Bar" at Providence Park commemorating shootout win vs. Sporting Kansas City

One of the most memorable moments in the Portland Timbers’ run to MLS Cup 2015 is set to be immortalized, with the club announcing on Thursday that they will open the “Double Post Bar” at Providence Park at the March 6 season opener against Columbus Crew SC.

The bar, which is specifically designed for and personalized by the Timbers Army, is named after the moment of Portland’s 2015 postseason. After a wild 120 minutes ended in a 2-2 draw, the Timbers and Sporting Kansas City moved to a penalty kick shootout in the 2015 Western Conference Knockout Round match.

Sporting’s Saad Abdul-Salaam had a chance to win the game in the ninth round, but saw his attempt bounce off both posts and ricochet away out of danger. Portland goalkeeper Adam Kwarasey won the match in the 11th round, and Portland went on to win their first MLS Cup, beating Columbus 2-1 in the title match.

The bar will be located on the concourse behind Timbers Army at Providence Park and will feature 12 beers on tap flowing from 48 tap handles and iconography from the Timbers Army and the Sporting KC win.
