Portland Timbers' Dairon Asprilla undergoes successful meniscus surgery

Dairon Asprilla celebrates goal vs. Sporting KC

Portland Timbers attacker Dairon Asprilla has undergone successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair a complex tear in his medial meniscus, the club announced Wednesday.

Asprilla will rehab the injury at Providence Park and the Providence Sports Care Center with the club's sports medicine staff and is expected to be able to resume training in five to six months.

The 27-year-old has been with the Timbers for six seasons, scoring 13 goals and dishing out 12 assists across all competitions. Prior to moving to Portland, Asprilla spent 2012-2014 with Colombian side Alianza Petrolera on loan from Athletico Nacional, scoring 22 goals in 71 appearances.

While he's struggled to find consistent form through his MLS career, Asprilla has become well known for his playoff heroics and timely goals, including this huge headed finish in extra time of the second leg in Portland's classic series against the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Semifinals of the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs, which the Timbers would go on to win in penalty kicks.
