TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Extension
The Portland Timbers and center back Bill Tuiloma have agreed to a multi-year contract extension, the club announced Thursday.
Tuiloma, 24, enjoyed his best season yet with the club in 2019, making 24 appearances (21 starts) with one golazo. The New Zealand international originally joined the club in 2017.
“Bill is an ascending young player who has a very bright future,” GM and president of soccer operations Gavin Wilkinson said in a club statement. “He has played his way into becoming a fixture along the back line and we are delighted to secure his services for years to come.”
Tuiloma has 25 appearances with the New Zealand national team.
“We feel very excited that Bill will continue as part of the Portland Timbers family,” said head coach Giovanni Savarese. “He is a defender with a lot of quality who can be versatile. He has worked hard to be an important player and still has the potential to grow.”
Earlier this offseason, the Timbers signed center back Dario Zuparic, to go alongside Tuiloma, Larrys Mabiala and Julio Cascante. A few days ago, the club re-signed club legend Diego Valeri to a new contract as well.
