TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Roster Update
The Portland Timbers announced their end-of-season roster moves, but perhaps the most pressing question around the team's roster in 2020 still lingers.
Though the Timbers officially did not exercise the contract option on star midfielder Diego Valeri, the club's talisman, they said in a statement that they remain in discussions with him regarding his status for the 2020 season. That corresponds with a report on Tuesday from The Athletic's Sam Stejskal that the two sides were nearing a deal for Valeri to remain in Portland.
A majority of the Timbers' remaining core, including 2019 star attacker Sebastian Blanco and midfield stalwart Diego Chara were already under contract for the 2020 season. Among players whose futures were up in the air, starting right back Jorge Moreira will remain on loan for another six months from Argentine giants River Plate, while the Timbers remain in discussions with Club América over extending midfielder Cristhian Paredes' stay in the Rose City after his loan concludes at the end of the year. The club also extended a bona fide offer to starting goalkeeper Steve Clark for the 2020 season.
The Timbers declined the options of goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh, defender Modou Jadama and forward Foster Langsdorf, while defender Claude Dielna is also out of contract.
