Philadelphia Union forward Kacper Przybylko was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Week for Weeks 7 and 8 of the 2020 MLS season.
Przybylko helped Philadelphia to back-to-back home victories at Subaru Park this week, first scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls on Tuesday before registering a brace and an assist in a 4-1 win against D.C. United on Saturday. With four regular-season goals this season, Przybylko is tied for seventh in the race for the 2020 MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi. Philadelphia is undefeated in its last seven MLS regular season matches and sits in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with 15 points (4W-1L-3D).
Facing New York in the midweek match, Przybylko scored the game’s only goal in the 31st minute when he finished a Raymon Gaddis cross with a left-footed tap in directly in front of goal.
Przybylko continued his hot streak against D.C., scoring a tap in in the seventh minute (above) and a tremendous right-footed shot from outside the box in the 16th minute (below) to give the Union an early 2-0 lead. The German-born striker then added an assist onto his brace with a 61st-minute helper on Brenden Aaronson’s goal to lift Philadelphia to a decisive 4-0 advantage.
Philadelphia continues action this week on Wednesday against Columbus Crew SC at MAPFRE Stadium (7:30 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in the US; DAZN in Canada) and on Saturday against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena (7 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in the US; DAZN in Canada)
The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season through both media and fan voting in a process conducted by MLS Communications. A panel of journalists from the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) comprises 75 percent of the vote, while a Twitter fan vote represents the remaining 25 percent of voting. NASR consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.
