Philadelphia Union's Jack McInerney takes home Week 8's MLS Player of the Week award

Jack McInerney celebrates brace vs. D.C.

Jack McInerney grabbed plenty of headlines this weekend for scoring the brace that helped the Philadelphia Union nip D.C. United on Sunday, and the 20-year-old is about to grab a few more.

McInerney's two-goal performance in the Union's 3-2 road win against United on Sunday saw the young striker claim Week 8's MLS Player of the Week award, the first of his four-year professional career. The milestone is the latest in a strong start to the season for McInerney, who leads the league in goals scored with six and appears to be growing in confidence with each passing week. It didn't take long for the Union forward to open the scoring in the Eastern Conference clash at RFK Stadium, as he beat United goalkeeper Bill Hamid with a well-taken, left-footed strike in the seventh minute. McInerney then tallied the eventual winner with a composed finish after a flick-on from Amobi Okugo in the 26th minute.
