UPDATE Thursday, 12:55 pm ET: The Philadelphia Union have good news about Alejandro Bedoya's quadriceps injury: While the club's captain will be out for their Decision Day clash against NYCFC on Sunday, Bedoya will be back for the club's Round One playoff game in a few weeks, head coach Jim Curtin announced.
Wednesday, 1:21 pm ET: Alejandro Bedoya’s quadriceps injury will probably sideline him for the Philadelphia Union’s Decision Day presented by AT&T meeting with New York City FC on Sunday. But the influential midfielder is expected to heal in time to play a role in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs.
That’s the mostly positive news, at least from a Union perspective, out of Chester, Pennsylvania as Philly trained on Wednesday, with the club confirming that their captain is slated to return to the field when the postseason kicks off on the weekend of Oct. 19-20.
Currently sitting in third place in the Eastern Conference standings but able to pass Atlanta United for second depending on Decision Day results, Philadelphia would host a first-round playoff game that weekend in either scenario.
“He’s likely out for Sunday, but should be back for playoffs,” a Union spokesperson confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Wednesday.
Bedoya sustained the injury during last weekend’s 2-0 loss at Columbus Crew SC. The 32-year-old former US international has been a key contributor for Philly this season, anchoring the midfield and chipping in four goals and four assists in league action.
