Fresh off their first-ever Supporters' Shield, the Philadelphia Union could be regaining the services of one of their key players in time for the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs.
Speaking to Fox Sports PHL Gambler hosts Joe Tansey and Jon Jansen on Monday, Curtin revealed that goalkeeper Andre Blake is progressing from the fractured right hand he suffered against Chicago Fire FC on Oct. 30, and that the backstop stands a chance of being ready to feature in Philadelphia's postseason opener.
Curtin said that Blake was at Union training on Saturday, and that the goal is to have Blake train in the week leading up to the club's first playoff match, assuming his recovery stays on track.
Blake's return would be a significant one as the Union try to make a run at a first-ever MLS Cup title. The 29-year-old has been one of the league's best goalkeepers throughout 2020, including a particularly spectacular showing at the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando.
Joe Bendik started in Blake's place for Philadelphia's Week 22 match against Columbus Crew SC, while Matt Freese drew the start on Decision Day presented by AT&T in the club's Shield-clinching victory over the New England Revolution.
