TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Loan
The Philadelphia Union have acquired midfielder Jamiro Monteiro on loan from French second-division side FC Metz, the club announced Tuesday. The deal is a four-month loan with an option to extend through the season as well as an option to buy. Targeted Allocation Money was used as part of the transaction.
Monteiro, 25, is a Dutch-born Cape Verde international, who has made three league appearances with Metz this season. He has featured for SC Cambuur-Leeuwarden and Heracles Almelo in the top two divisions in Holland. He had four goals and three assists in 34 matches in the Dutch top division in 2017/18 before moving to Metz.
"We have had our eye on Jamiro for some time and we are pleased to complete this deal to bring him to Philadelphia,” Union technical director Ernst Tanner said in a club statement. “He is a relentless box-to-box midfielder who we believe fits well into our tactical parameters for a central midfielder. We look forward to integrating him into the squad as quickly as possible with the young season just underway."
Head coach Jim Curtin said he can play anywhere across the midfield for the Union.
